Repost due to wierd newsreader issue
 

"This is a 'soldier' on our allotment.

It looked enough like a bean for us to let it grow and hope for something
useful.
However it is producing what look like seeds.

Any idea what it is?

However when I tagged the thread to be watched, it disappeared just like the
one in individual.net.
Both accounts show the 'phantom unread watched message' symptom.

If anyone has anything to add, could they please use this thread?

Looks rather like Japanese Knotweed! A dwarf form perhaps, and producing
seed !! :-(

I wouldn't get alarmed! The resemblance is only because it is almost certainly in the same family, Polygonaceae, the dock family. I'd go with Stewart's previous suggestion of buckwheat.

Yes, my wife said they looked like buckwheat seeds.
Probably not a major allotment crop,though.
Is it worth harvesting?

Only you can decide that! Buckwheat used to be used as an alternative to rice in the trendy macrobiotic diets of the early 70s.
