Physalis propagation

I've been given some chinese lanterns, each of which has a small red fruit
in it which I assume contains seeds. I'd like to have a go at growing them,
any advice? Like should I leave the fruit as is or open it and sow the
seeds. And should I do it now, or wait till spring? Or maybe do it indoors,
or is an unheated greenhouse OK?

TIA

Open now, or they will rot. There will be LOTS of seeds, so you
can try several times. I would wait until spring, and start indoors,
but they will do perfectly well in an unheated greenhouse. Treat
them much as for tomatoes, except they don't get blight.
