Ramsons

Hello All,

I seem to remember that, a few months ago, there was a discussion here
about ramsons but I can't find it now.

Can any kind person tell me where I might buy seed or plants in the UK?
I know it's really a wild plant as I saw some in Hungary last spring in
the grounds of the Esterhazy Palace (underfoot along their vast
avenues). I was hoping I might persuade it grow in my cider apple
orchard.

There are many other sources, but it is in Chiltern Seeds' catalog.

It appears that it's too late to buy bulbs, but there might be a
supplier still shipping bulbs.

It might have been me, wanting to plant up my orchard with native plants and
I wanted this one.
A very kind person on here sent me some and they did well immediately but
they are not enough to split to send to anyone yet. I am assured that in a
few years I will want to give most of them away as they will over-run my
place. Gorgeous (down in the ground now)
Tina

You can find all sorts of things for sale on Ebay, but my ramsons were sent
to me by someone on this group.
Which is very nice and I appreciated it.

They prefer a damp and rather shady spot. I had them growing like crazy
on a north-facing stream bank with a hedge on top in West Wales. I sent
some of them to somebody in this group, perhaps as much as ten years
ago, but never heard if they'd arrived safely.

Thank you all for your comments and help (and sorry not to have come
back earlier - been in bed all week with a temperature). Actually I had
tried googling but didn't seem to come up with any suppliers, only
information.

Hadn't thought about Chiltern Seeds - I'll give them a try.

And thanks to Bill Grey who sent me a lovely photo of a carpet of
Ramsons in the Swansea Valley.

Try Ixquick as a search engine. I find it much better than Google.

You might have to use Google to find it though

Someone (Urger) kindly sent me some from Ireland a few years ago.

The slugs and/or snails tnd to get them before they've seeded, but I've
a planter full of them from where I harvest seeds.

Dunno what happened to this year's - they'll be in a packt somewhere,
under something, under something else.
