cut flowers- lily of the valley
 

I wanted to give some of these I have growing, to a friend.

Is it best, in terms of durability, to cut these when in bud or when
open? Also, do the flowers last ok if they are cut at ground level
(to include the leaf).

Any tips on making them last a bit longer?

A French friend used to give me a bunch of them every year on May 1st(a
tradition in France). Hers were cut from her garden, low down with leaf,
with the flowers open; it never seemed to reduce her colony at all.
They would last several days in water.
I love them and must have tried dozens of times to establish them in my
own gardens, with zero success.

Yes, I'm in france too. I posted a query about lotv a while back
because my little patch needed to be kept in check from spreading
sideways. There's still a tendency but it's not as bad as I feared.

Anyway, I'm encouraged by the the fact that cutting these won't result
in a bald patch. Not sure though if I should be cutting flowers that
haven't yet quite opened.

Yes, but you will weaken the plants. Cut one or two leaves to go with
a bunch of flowers.
