We had it too, for almost an hour. But when I dug in the ground it
had only penetrated a couple of inches

We've had overnight rain! The ground is wet!!
Not had a chance to have a digging yet, though

My wife, the gardener with over 50 years experience, has been out and
reported that the water has gone in to more than half the depth of a trowel,
and still deeper.
