I've only watched half and I'm amazed that ITV has been brave enough
to showcase gardening during a prime viewing slot. It's very good and
easily manages to challenge Gardener's World and other BBC gardening
programmes. I'm not easily impressed, but I'm impressed. Nice, easy,
well produced and exceptionally well presented. I'm a plant buff and
I'm entertained. Barely time to make a cuppa and then part 2.

Yes, I agree. Gardeners World went to Monet's garden and didn't even mention
where the waterlilies came from. Missed a trick unless he is going to go to
Temple sur Lot in a later program.

Really lovely and an interesting piece of gardening history. I hadn't
known about that so, having visited the garden, I enjoyed that site.
Thanks, Bob.

Funny how Latour-Marliac's influence on Monet always seems to be forgotten,
even in gardening programmes it seems.
I've not visited Monet's garden but have visited (made the pilgrimage to)
the nursery of Latour-Marliac. If you are ever down South West France way
it's well worth a trip to visit in the summer when the plants are flowering.
I might be forced to take another visit there when we are next down near
Moissac, I want the waterlily "Gloire de Temple-sur-Lot" which I know they
still have.

Did anyone catch Timothy Walker last night on a gardening programme?
BBC3 I think

Very good, all about naming plants and how plant growing and hybrids
came into being and the first attempts etc.with carnations and so on.

Timothy Walker has always been an entertainer like so many successful
lecturers. He works for Oxford Botanic gardens.

It says in one trailer that it's all part of BBC3's 'botanical' season
so maybe a few more gems will turn up?
