Yet Another Gardening Programme Coming
 

We really seem to be in for treats! Now Channel 5 are getting in on
the act with a run of 8 half-hour programmes called "Garden ER",
starting on Wednesday 13 July at 7.30 pm, presented by garden designer
David Domoney (who I haven't heard of before).

Seems it's going to be aimed at "non-gardeners or people with little
gardening knowledge who may feel intimidated by other garden
programmes".

I'm anticipating a series of football programmes for people with
no interest in the game, presented by Gimme DeMoney. In a special feature
called Pimp My Balls, Gimme and the producer will demonstrate how they
lost their marbles.

That's hilarious Janet. But sadly it's also very near the truth.
Why on earth would non-gardeners watch a gardening programme?

ROFL!

By the second programme in the series, I suspect it will be presented
by a former garden designer (who I've never heard of though a web
search reveals he's won a few Chelsea medals).

David Domoney is a reputable garden designer with an eye for the
unusual which tends to attract publicity - which every show garden
designer would like to have. He's not part of the "establishment" but
it is to the credit of the RHS that he has been awarded gold medals
nonetheless. He may be familiar to some as the resident gardening
contributor to ITV's 'This Morning' programme.

'Garden ER' certainly won't appeal to the purists/snobs. It will be
full of gimmicky makeovers and shock-horror bodges. Doubtless it will
appeal to the large majority of people who own gardens but don't know
what to do with them. I would be surprised if it isn't dismissed out of
hand by the cognoscenti here.

On the bright side, in about 5 years when non gardeners who feel they
can make a garden in 25 minutes over a weekend have followed the
programmes advice slavishly, they will have an overgrown completely out
of control garden so need to employ 'proper' gardeners to come in and
sort it out.

Tom always said it's by making mistakes you learn the most.
Perfectly true when it comes to computers when i only actually try and
learn a programme after it crashes and takes my data with it:)
