Can anyone please help me to identify this tree growing in my local park?

It was hard to photograph the foliage in the shade, so I snapped the ones growing out of the trunk. They are very distinctive.

Taken last week (30th June).

Looks like a hawthorn of some kind from leaf and bark. There are many kinds, but one would probably need to know a bit more than just leaf and bark to pin it down specifically.
