Do carrots help you to see in the dark?

No. It is a myth put about by the MOI when we were using radar to detect
enemy aircraft during WWII.

Isn't the idea that carrots help you see in the dark based on the fact that
they contain (vitamin A?) which prevents night-blindness? So rather than
improving night vision, they just stop it being rubbish. Which is kind of
the same, depending on your standing point.

Not totally a myth. Carrots contain vitamin A and lutein, which are
both helpful in keeping our retinas healthy. It's not just carrots
which contain these however. Green leafy veg and many other things
are helpful too.

Phil there are two points over this matter. It also ties up with the 'Dig
for Victory' campaign where there was a glut of carrots!!

I give illustrated talks and one of them is on the Food Rationing during
World War II. My talks are mainly to the Senior Citizen and Military
Historical Clubs and Associations.

Research into Food Rationing brings up some interesting facts on our farming
in those days and how little we provided for ourselves. I am afraid that the
war somewhat spoilt their leisurely way of life!!
