Autumn Raspberries recommendations pls
 

I have decided to grow Autumn cropping raspberries as we love the Summer
ones so much. what is the variety of your choice and where is a reliable
source please?

I'll second that suggestion though this year (it being a quirky one
for everything) mine fruited early and have now gone over yet my
Tulameen summer ones are still producing 4 or 5 ripe fruits each day
with a fair few still to ripen.

I bought mine from Ken Muir's company some years ago and Ken himself
sadly died earlier this year. I see they're currently taking orders at
£13.60 for 5 canes and can only assume they're as good as they were
when I bought mine.

I don't know what the hell it has to do with you Baz, but yes it does.
If the OP only wants to plant a half a dozen or so then there are
sites selling canes in 1's and 5's, other sites sell by the 10, but if
they want to plant 100 or more then there are a couple of comercial
suppliers who will supply in those quantities, and the price is a lot
lower.
One firm worth looking at who have changed to retail since I delt with

Thanks for your replies to date. I've been out and measured where I
intend to plant them and find that 25 is about the number I need. Autumn
Bliss seems well thought of so will probably go for those. As regards a
supplier I am obviously concerned about price but quality and
reliability is my prime consideration.

Hmm! I only asked, and politely too! Can I suggest that if you want to post
to this public newsgroup, you should accept the fact that other gardeners
have an interest and so will interact.
I want to gather as much info. as I can because I have some new rasp.

I would also recommend Autumn Bliss. I have had several very good
pickings, and there are still more to come. I have learned 2 lessons
about them.
They need:
1. Good sunlight
2. Plenty of water.

Last year I had plentiful canes but not much rain. Also there was a
big tree shading my allotment for a large part of the day. The canes
flowered very late and no fruit formed before the first frost.
In the winter we had the tree felled, and it has made all the
difference along with recent rain. Raspberries galore!

What the nurseries do NOT want you knowing...

Several years ago I planted 1 Autumn Bliss and 1 Fall Gold (yellow),
within no time they were rampaging thru' the bed they were in and into
neighbouring beds. If they like where they are planted, they can be very
rampant. But if your pockets are deep, buy as many as you want.

Autumn Bliss seems well thought of so will probably go for those.

It is a good rasp. But not excellant - my standard for taste is the summer
variety Leo. I've not yet tasted an autumn variety that matches.

As regards a
supplier I am obviously concerned about price but quality and
reliability is my prime consideration.

I've found in general that autumn varities are hardier and less virus
prone than summer varieties, so I suspect that most decent sources will be
ok.
