Default Signs of winter to come

They say a heavy cropof berries is a sign of a hard winter to come,
well we had just that, but now there are masses of berries on the
ground as the trees seem to be geting rid of them.
Does that mean that the winter has changed it's mind and it will now
be easier on us?
