You'd probably have more success grafting the third from the left tree
onto the next but one on the left tree.

I took it that that is where it came from and it is only the overhead
branches holding it vertical, thus the question of rooting compound 'where
it has landed'

Right - it dug itself a small hole and is fairly rigid but unlikely to
survive for long.
