Dethacting issues

2 years ago I laid down new turf.

Last year I noticed the grass was different coloured in different areas and
growing at different speeds in different areas.

On doing research I decided to aerate and dethatch the lawn.

I was quite surprised by how much dead grass/thatch was coming out whilst
dethatching but assumed it was because when the grass was originally grown
they mowed it a lot and didn't pick up the clippings.

This year I ntoe again the grass doesn't seem to be ideal so I ran my rake
through the grass again and was surprised to find that a lot of dead grass
is coming up - why is this?

I always collect my grass clippings when I mow.

Should I be able to get to a point where no more stuff is coming up or
would that not be ideal in of itself?

Ihave had a quick look at some websites and they reocmmend havign osme
thatch and cutting up some grass to see a cross section of what you have.
Which I will do tomorrow. How much should I have ideally?

I am using a standard rake not a dethatching rake.
