Compost worms
 

Emptied a compost bin yesterday and started it off again with the remains of
three other collections. These collections in bags and a leaf mould net, had
worms in them, so the refilled bin has worms at different levels.

Someone remarked on here or gardenbanter that worms only go up. Can anyone
confirm that please? No problem as the compost bin is partially on earth so
more will come. Just curious.

It is my understanding that they work their up as they eat and digest
the compost material. However, if the weather becomes very hot and dry,
they may very well seek the cooler, moister levels below.

they may very well seek the cooler, moister levels below.



And if it gets very cold they will leave the bin and go down lower.

If they only went up, they'd all die in the sun.
