Default posher fence panels

Anyone got any ideas for a bit more upmarket fence panels for a small
garden? Not the enclosing sort as there's fencing down both sides so to
erect a close lapped row at the bottom against the
holly/buddleia/lilac/hawthron hedge would be to make the garden into a
sort of chicken run
I thought of trellis stuff or at least something that wasn't quite so
'solid' just to put in front of the miscellaneous hedging but can't find
much online.

If the budget runs to it, iron gate panels used as a fence could look
very smart. The link below (hopefully) shows a rail rence with a
decorative top, but there are arrow-topped railings also, which would
deter casual intruders.

This looks like a fence you could make using tile battons for the
slats.

I was going to suggest getting creative with those same battens as used by roofers. I've done several that incorporate a bit of trellis at the top. Much stronger and longer lasting than panels, I haven't compared price with the panels though. I normally base the design on 3.6 or 4.8 metre lengths and space posts to suit those lengths, height usually half or 1/3 of those lengths. I just set the posts and screw a couple of rails to them so you have a simple post and 2 rail fence, then screw your nice fence to that structure. Alternating battens and 100mm wide boards works well, everything spaced about 25mm apart.

Have they thought of fencing posts at random heights? Squared off,
pointed etc? It won't be uniform and it will be interesting to look at.

The other day I saw decking used upright and set at an angle. Looked
quite effective with a wavy top, and no doubt inspired by something on
the tele

Why no doubt? Cannot the ordinary person have good ideas, are TV peeps
the only ones to have them?

It's a good idea, but not very practical, because it will soon rot.
Media types don't have to think that far ahead.

It's an idea but it was really to 'tidy up' a really scruffy mixed hedge
oh and to stop Alfie the Newfoundland from walking through to the garden
behind and accidentally stepping on the westie that lives there

I have seen some nice garden fence panels at All Garden Products.co.uk. There's wooden fence panels with trellising on top, or i think i saw some decorative trellis as well. Hope this helps
