Pruning clematis
 

I have a clematis (I think jackmanii)
which has climbed about 40ft up a wall.
Should I cut it back?
And if so, when?
It's a bit straggly, but flowers reasonably well.

It can be hard pruned/cut back between November and April.

If it has been many years since this last happened would suggest its down in
stages. or one stem at a time.
