Default Good Climber To Replace Dead Wisteria

Hi

Large Wisteria has died and looking for something to replace it on a Suffolk
east facing wall.

Any good suggestions please.

TIA

I've always considered Wisteria, once established, to be as tough as old
boots, do you know what killed it.

Not really Bob, No expert on Wisteria, inherited it 6 years ago when it was
doing fine. Suspect lack of water, very dry here at times last summer.

If it was grafted (and they often are), graft failure is not unknown.

As to what to replace it with, do you want deciduous or evergreen? If
the latter, have you thought about Clematis armandii (in one of its many
cultivar forms)? It is hardy enough for an east-facing wall in Suffolk.
and having scented flowers fairly early in the year is a bonus. It is
also a really fast grower.

And good old Holboellia - scented flowers in May or thereabouts and
evergreen. Or my major favourite Clematis rehderiana if it will take
winters there?

Thanks for the suggestions, quite like the sound of a Clematis Armandii .
