I know it may be strange but I have a plant question.
Has anyone tried growing Yacon?

No, but tell us how you get on, as I expect I'd like to eat them. Real Seeds say it is simple as dahlias, of the variety one overwinters indoors, and show a picture of big tubers dug up. Other sources say you need a long growing season. Vegetable Seeds : Unusual Tubers: Oca, Ulluco etc

I expect you need a lot of rain, but then you have that.

Well so far that's 2 No's.
As Chris has said I get plenty of summer rain.
One of the things I would like to know is just how big the tubers get,
On-line info doesn't really say. Just that they grow like dahlias, but I
have varieties that form nice little 4 or 5 inch tubers whilst others
will fill a bucket..
I suspect the latter will be nearer.

I bought one last year. I kept it slightly damp in its pot in our
lean-to over winter. It's just started showing signs of growth and I've
potted it on. That's as far as I know.

I got mine from Otter Farm and I was looking up their details to pass on
but the photo on this page shows them to be the size of a large potato.

Yes.

I shall be getting some more this summer - even though I put the
'growing' tubers in side, I think the winter did for them.
