Called in there yesterday and they are doing buy 2 plants and get 3rd
free ends Monday, it over rides their other plant offers, so I bought 12
tomato plants, strawberry and yam plants saved almost £4 instead of £1.90.
David @ a strangely wind free and sunny side of Swansea Bay.

Aldi's bedding plants have been standing outside for a week or more,
presumably awaiting the skip into which they will have to be chucked if
there's enough staff.

Well, don't knock it. Our local B&Q is always worth a look for plants - some quite good. And it's not all run of the mill impulse buy bedding.

compost she said that they were probably self watering! I wonder how she
thinks that this is going to happen.

I was told in one store that Health and safety didn't allow them to
water in case the got water on the floor and a customer slipped in it.

That I can believe. They depend on selling stuff within a day or two
before it dries out, and this Spring has put pay to that. One wonders
why they bother with a market with so many pitfalls

I did get some lettuce seedlings from them and they came in a miniature
greenhouse with a layer of gel beneath the compost.
Very neat.

If your local is ok, great. Around here I stopped even thinking about
B&Q plants years ago. I do have a quick nip outside sometimes when I'm
there for something else but nothing has yet convinced me to change my
view. I do not think a "half price" label on a shelf of six packs in
each of which, at best, one plant is showing signs that it might live
for another few hours is value for money!

If I want "bigger" plants I prefer to buy from a nursery or somewhere
like Crocus where they can tell which way up something should be.

I think that with a lot of the "Sheds", if you can find out the day they
have delivery of their plants and go that day or the next you can get
some good stuff. but once they have had it for a week or so then it all
depends on the staff they have, One branch near us is good, but another,
I believe that the plants start to die as soon as they know they are
going there.
