Old Rose identification
 

Not entirely sure if anyone can help, but if anyone can it's the people on this forum!

We have propagated a cutting from an old climbing rose, growing on a house that was due for demolition. Judging by the state of the plant it was nearly as old as the house. House was built 1902.

The rose has flowered this year for the first time, lovely flowers and a delicious scent, reminds me of Attar of Roses or good quality Turkish delight!

Question is, what rose is it?

There are thousands of roses but at a guess, Albertine, if only because
it has been so popular for such a long time. If it flowers only once in
the season, that's another clue. If it is remontant, then it's not
Albertine.

Doesn't look like Albertine to me.
Try sending the question and picture to the Royal National Rose Society

Fairly certain it is not Albertine, does not look like any of the pictures in the books I have or on Google images. Weather permitting I will take a better picture in the morning and repost as well as contacting RNRS, thanks for the replies!

Can you also take some typical foliage pictures and stems it can sometimes
help, and 3 stages of flowers, buds just opening, nearly full open and
almost over, colours can vary a lot, so far its easier to say what its not
and that it looks more like a climber than a rambler.

Side on it does resemble Compassion but it may turn out to be one of the
climbing tea roses and they are hard to ID as so many names have been lost

I'll have a look in '(Sven) Poulsen on The Rose' which I have somewhere.
It's not *exactly where I thought it was, but it's sufficiently
venerable to be worth a look.

Why, when I try to open your tinyurl am I asked to accept one cookie

Charlie, I have taken some more pictures, hopefully a better quality and more useful!
Rusty, no idea about the cookie issue with Flickr, not something I use a lot. Have uploaded this lot to Photobucket, prefer the layout etc
