On its way across the Channel.

They did warn us and it looks heavy.

I'll believe it when I see it. If we get 10 mm I'll be happy - never
mind the 20 - 40 they have been forecasting.

Well, according to http://www.raintoday.co.uk/ ,
at 9:15, there are patches or 50mm/hr over south Devon,
and over the channel there is a 45 minute band of 5-10mm/hr
including a 15 minute band of 15-20mm/hr.

It's pouring here just south of Dartmoor and the wind is south west.
But a few minutes ago it was a deluge. I'm profoundly thankful that
we're on a considerable slope and surrounded by fields! I gather
there's a yellow weather warning out for Dorset so I hope anyone living
there doesn't suffer horrible flooding experiences.

According to raintoday, you got it in the neck at 9:45 and 10:15
(and you might again at 10:45). In between it merely rained!

Having lived in Fenland, I'm acutely aware of contours and flooding!

Ugh yes! Sounds about right for timing. In between, I dash out to
feed the birds and fish and dash back again. The sloping paths are
running with water.

I'm sure!

I was very lucky, I was asked by a member of the Theatre Trust to present
some photos for the web site. Rain, heavy rain forecast. Managed to nip out
and take some super photos of the latest improvements, then a few minutes
later it chucked it down with rain.

Well, the 10 mm I hoped for was wildly optimistic. We had only 1.5 mm
today. It started around 9 and stopped around 10. That makes a grand
total of 5.5 mm in 10 weeks. I hope that we get a decent amount tonight.

Realised I hadn't taken any readings for a couple of weeks or so as it
was just dribs and drabs, but tonight the grand total was 2.8 inches,
much of that was today.
Had to go to the chiropodist this afternoon to have my flippers pruned.

Thanks. We did get some rain but nothing like the downpour with flooding
predicted with traffic disruption.
I have a railway bridge that I have to drive under every day to get to a
shop or down to my veggie plot. If we have big rain it floods big time.
I forget how many people have tried to get their cars through and failed.
One poor chap had to get out of his sun roof and the fire brigade had to
come. Car was a write off.
The thing it, us locals know that the road dips under the bridge and not to
risk it.
I could make a whole load of money if I had a 4x4 to tow them out for £20.
Much cheaper than the local garage ;-)

I don't know why anyone with a 4x4 doesn't wait beside that flooded bridge
to watch those cars that try it, and fail.

Of course, we could pull them out, out of the kindness of our hearts, but
maybe we did it a few times too many.
If you see a sea of water under a bridge consider if your car can manage it,
or whether a reroute would be best.

I have a lovely pic on my computer about a failure to see that it was
stupid even to try - with the fire brigade in the background, trying to pump
the water out. That car was well dead afterwards.

Tina
