Shrub Gift for someone who likes Tango (Dance)
 

Hi
Could anyone recommend a shrub or plant with maybe Tango in the name for a birthday gift for a good friend ? They love dancing rather than the drink ! so maybe something with a dance theme in the name. They live in the South West England, heavy clay soil but sheltered garden.

The RHS plantfinder has no plants with the name "Tango" as a variety.

But it does have quite a few with "Waltz" as a variety. For example,
there is a Camellia called "Waltz Time". That is available from the
Duchy of Cornwall nurseries

Camellia Grove Nursery
(http://apps.rhs.org.uk/rhsplantfinde...=8&so=pf&mo=N).
Many Camellias will grow in clay; others may not like it.

There is also an Abutilon called "Waltz", available from Cross Common
Nursery
(http://apps.rhs.org.uk/rhsplantfinde...ID=2595&so=pf).
Abutilons vary in their cold tolerance, but they have a better chance in
South-west than elsewhere in the UK.

There are quite a few Fuchsias with "Waltz" in their name
(http://apps.rhs.org.uk/rhsplantfinde...&Genus=Fuchsia)

If none of the above are what you are after, you can try entering a
dance name of your choice here, and see what turns up:

Remember though, that at this time of year plant stocks may be low, so
even if you find a plant of interest, it may not be in stock.

There is more than one tropical hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) with
Tango in the name (e.g. 'Tango', 'Tango Queen', 'Toucan Tango',
'Maroochy Tango', 'Mango Tango', 'Blue Tango', 'Orange Tango'). But
there are two problems: firstly that they would be hard to acquire in
Britian, and secondly that you need a warm location, such as a heated
greenhouse - they're not just frost-intolerant but also chilling-intolerant

There's a McGredy rose called R. 'Tango', but it doesn't seem to be
ready available. There is also R. 'Tango Showground'. Both are pretty,
but I don't know how easy they are to source.

I doubt it, I've lost a few under cold glass even with just frost
protection, but they do make great house plants.

If they appreciate puns, you could give them clematis tangutica
(tangotica)

It's a very pretty , robust climber with a long season of yellow
flowers and fluffy seedheads.

There is a Clematis called 'Tango' sadly I regard it as a bit of a challenge
to grow well and wouldn't recommend it for most gardens.
