I do have a cage trap but it catches more black birds than rabbits. I have a sneaky feeling its actually the same stupid Black bird that keeps getting caught! Any suggestions of a good bait? Mike |

Steve I use Carrots, Blackbirds are not interested in them, so have never caught one. Cut the carrot into good sized pieces, place a couple outside the trap gradually leading towards it, then one just inside and finally one where a rabbit on it, or reaching for it, will spring the trap. One good sized carrot should be enough for twice. |

Any advise on getting rid of a rabbit? The bloody thing has destroyed most of my roses! Rabbits don't like blood and bone meal but that is only temporary. If you want to get rid of them permanently there are a number of tactics that do work. Use the sort of poison used in agriculture for control of rabbits - it'd be worth finding out what that poison is in your country. If it's available in the UK, 1080 works. 1080 is a very foul poison but effective. Any other mammal taking the bait will be history too. If you can find the burrow another thing that works is to use an older model lead petrol powered car exhaust where you shove a hose over the exhaust pipe and shove the hose down the burrow and pack the exhaust around with soil to prevent fume escape. Leave the engine running for a good half hour or even more. After you remove the exhaust hose, rip the burrow using a pick and keep ripping it whenever you see sign of activity. Another tactic is to get a Jack Russell or 3. |

I used to have rabbits in my garden but my lurcher caught every one. I don't have rabbits now. A dead blackbird? |

The reason I ask is that I posted a thread about problems I am having with roses this year. I assumed it was due to the bed being rather wet but I am now wondering if it could be rabbits - we are inundated with them at the moment. Jeanne |

I was on the telephone at the time watching through the lounge window so couldn't scream abuse. I don't suppose the rabbit understand abuse but it sometimes makes me feel better... Mike |
