Strawberry propagation
A few weeks ago I bought a couple of "past-it" strawberry plants (at a
discount) for propagation and fruiting next year. One was "Eros" and the other "Honeoye". Both have put on a good bit of growth, but whereas Eros has put out half a dozen runners, Honeoye has none. I haven't grown strawberries before, so don't know whether or not it is unusual for Honeoye to have no runners at all. Anyone else grow these varieties? Also, I read somewhere that you should limit runners to two per plant. Is there any reason for this? I am not concerned if the original plant exhausts itself, as long as I get a few plants for next year. -- Jeff |
