Default How to prune an old apple tree

We've had the one on pruning a young one. I've got one that's perhaps
25ft tall (which is making picking ... interesting... ) and also has a
nice woodpecker hole in the trunk.

Just prune out any badly damaged or crossing branches during the winter
season and see how it reponds. It is a bit late for summer pruning now.

Is there any chance of me getting it back to something sensible so I can
get fruit (which are BTW quite nice) or should I just give up and stew
windfalls?

..
Get one of the extensible pole apple pickers that's how I get mine off
the higher branches. Is it a cooking, cider or dessert apple?

Dessert.

Buying a picker for one aged tree might not be a very good use of funds.
I might make one though, they aren't complicated.

fx looks online Oh, a tenner for one that reaches to 2.4 metres. Hang
on, I can reach that far without!

But that is 2,4 meters beyond your reach.
