Smartening up a garden wall tip

I posted this to uk.d-i-y, then thought of this group.

For the past 6 years I've been looking at my very grotty front garden wall
and wondering what to do about it.
Seems that it was built 30 years and has never been touched.
I've seen them painted; it just does not seem to work very well.

Use a wire brush, then 500g of caustic soda in 6ltrs of cold water. Apply to
the wall with a hand brush. Wear gloves and don't get this stuff on your
skin or in the eyes.
Wait for about one hour, then jet wash off.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/m1qicvwjuy...pg?n=211417289

I used masking tape around the joints on the top stones, then a
narrow trowel for the sand and cement.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/dj6r7b4tdp...20005.jpg?dl=0

It's the best part of a days work but worth it.

I would strongly emphasise the last. Strong caustic soda in the eye
attacks the cornea and can result in permanent injury with blurred or
distorted vision, or even blindness. Wear goggles or a visor.

Wait for about one hour, then jet wash off.

Oh _very_ smart. As good as new, if not better! Good job done.

Thank to both you and Bob for the compliments.
I transplanted some bulbs from the ground into posts last month. They are in
the garage. I have noticed some sort of white mould on the soil. Should I
just leave it alone?
