Regurgitated from uk.d-i-y (thanks to PeterC). Something useful for
free! Seems you have to use the Chrome browser and have a GMail address
though

https://geoauth.google.com/gev0/free_trial.html?hl=en

Now to discover the benefits over the non-pro version....

I'd seen a bit about needing Chrome, but I got it with Opera 12.17 and using

If that hadn't've worked I have Pale Moon (Firefox sans crap) as an

Ironically, I can't run modern GE on this PC (it's nearly 8 years old).

I find Google Earth (plain or pro) runs without a browser running. I
just tested it by loading Google Earth and ending all the browser
processes. Google Earth is still up! Google Maps seems to need a
browser running.

Google Earth takes ages to start up.

Timing.... 2.27 seconds. How is that ages?

Why should you provide Google with personal information?

Stats most likely. Why does it bother you? By all means withhold your credit card number, but your name and where you live, what's the problem?

Any way it was a waste
of time because Google overloaded. It told me to try again later

That's a first, I've never known Google underestimate server power.

It takes more than a minute to start on my PC.

If anything takes longer than 5 seconds after I click it, I go mental and either punch the computer or buy a part to make it faster.

Why is it a hassle to use one instead of a standalone program? Both require the launch of one program.
