safe weedkiller for cats?

Want to kill weeds growing out of the concrete around the house. Anyone know
of a well-known brand that is safe for pussykats and
birds?.......................... :-)

Pour boiling water on the weeds, it's safer than the noxious stuff. Or pull
or hoe them out

Boiling water wont kill the roots though will they? And you would need one
hell of a lot of boiling water! And digging them out will destroy my
concrete cracks even more. Nope, a uk easily available weedkiller safe for
cats is what I want.

Glyphosate is as good as any. Cheapest own brand from a DIY store with largest %
glyphosate should do it. The active ingredient is relatively harmless to mammals
and birds. But incredibly lethal to green plants - it targets a pathway that
only occurs in photosynthesis. Unless your cat is green it should be safe
enough.

The real formulations for garden use also include wetting agents (powerful
detergents) that are not so nice and have killed people who drank a bottle full
of concentrate. Treat all garden chemicals with respect.

Nothing is completely safe. You can potentially expire by drinking too much pure
water.

Most modern weedkillers are safe around children and pets once it has dried.
Ideally the best thing to use is pathclear gun- this version contains
Glyphosate, the sachets don't. Ordinary pathclear is also safe to use.
There are also other brands of path and patio weedkillers available which
are just as good. They will clearly state on the label how safe they are.

Roundup/other Glyphosate based weedkillers may leave a white stain.

Stay away from sodium chloride. Gem weedkiller for paths, drives and waste
land is sodium chloride.

If they are a few feet from any open soil and plants you want then I would
be tempted to try dosing the individual weeds with table salt

I've used lots - anything which says "safe for pets and children" and so far
cats (and children) are fine. (Keep box out of reach though.)

That seems highly unlikely. Sodium chloride is common table salt. A feeble
weedkiller.

Sodium *chlorate* is the strongly oxidising inorganic weedkiller. And is
moderately toxic to all.
As the packaging coyly describes it "may promote combustion".
