Yes, I grow lots of them, and I always remove raggedy foliage. Beware
of just pulling it away, however, because the leaf stem is quite tough
and you can easily damage the plant.

Some Heucheras, and perhaps Heucherellas and Tiarellas have the habit of
pushing themselves out of the ground. These can be lifted and replanted
at the correct level.

Thanks, Spider. I planted 2 Heucheras in clay soil last year. They are in
full shade and they seemed to do ok. Currently, one of them, Green Spine has
woken up and producing new growth. The other, Delta Dawn so far hasn't shown
new signs of life yet. Should I be concerned?

I can't be sure, of course, but whenever I detect serious problems with
Heucheras/Heucherellas and Tiarellas I dig them up. Usually the problem
is those dreadful Jiffy 7 type pots much used by nurseries. The roots
are reputed to grow out of the teabag-like soft-pot (for want of a
better name), but they don't or rarely do sufficiently well to sustain
the plant. Provided there is any life left in the plant, or even enough
to attempt a cutting with, I snip away the bag and free the roots. The
plant is either put back in the ground or used as cuttings material.

Another possibility is Vine Weevils, the larvae of which will destroy
your plant's roots. I once thought I'd rescued a Heuchera by removing
every larva I could see, then replanted. Alas, one larva had buried
itself in the main stem at crown level - exit one Heuchera:~((.

If you need yet another problem, there now seems to be some form of rust
or fungal spotting attacking this tribe of plants. Be very wary when
you buy. Examine the leaves and make sure they're clean.
