A neighbour has an occasional "gardener" in to look after her

Some time ago I saw him spreading crystals on the drive and
assumed it was weed killer of some sort.
The results were good and I asked him yesterday what these
crystals were and he produced a bottle of white rock salt ice
melting crystals.
Does anyone else here use salt in this way?
He reckons it's OK as long as it is not applied close to grass or
tender plants.

I now use salt to clear weeds on the drive. It works just as well as
weedkiller I have used.
