Because people use them as a vegetable.
I for one don't want Tomato with custard as a desert even if it is
a fruit.

LOL

A good answer.

Our local Dutch supermarket chain has tinned tomatoes in the section
with Italian food.

Which leads us to the question of whether tomato ketchup belongs in
the fruit department :-)

Morrisons here has a "World Foods" isle. What they mean is "foreign
stuff".

Like tomatoes, potatoes, that sort of thing you mean?

He means aisle.

- or do you see these
as 'English' now because we've been eating them for so long?

What's with this "English"
I think you mean "British"

If they are from the Isles he means Scottish??

You mean like the Isles of Scilly, or the Channel Isles?

British Isles, which is a geographical entity including
Eire (much to their annoyance).

The Irish are an abomination.

You original post smelled of trollery - but it had
the virtue of being amusing.

Your last response doesn't even have that small virtue.

There's a reason for the stereotype.

How would that decision affect what they actually are? Should we have an aisle labelled "stuff that goes with this other stuff?"

I want a tomato, I know it's a fruit, so I should go to the fruit aisle!

As with most supermarkets the section is "Fruit and Veg" I don't see the
problem, and not everyone knows (or cares) that a tomato is a fruit.
Come to that a lot don't even care what it tastes like.

If they don't know what a fruit is, do they know what a car is? I guess the yanks don't know what a truck is, they think a 4x4 is a truck.

If it's fruit and veg, there isn't a problem. But my Asda has a fruit aisle and a veg aisle.

I can't understand why, if you despise that supermarket so much you
give them so much free advertising and don't take your custom elsewhere.

I haven't given them any advertising, only bad press.

I already do, but for a different reason. I only buy 3 items in there which Aldi and Morrisons don't stock.

Fresh tomatoes, canned tomatoes and tomato puree?

Pizza, triple chocolate fresh baked cookies, and fly spray.

I'm not close up. I do it to prevent the noise.
