Butterflies?

Buddleia in full bloom everywhere but no butterflies on the butterfly bush.

However something is spawning caterpillars on virtually all my shrubs -
they are eating away the growing tips. Even going after the olive trees.

I read that we had a butterfly shortage, but is Coastal Suffolk
particularly affected?

Cheers

Sawfly?

I've only seen a few here and mostly whites on the cabbages. One Red
Admiral, one Peacock, a few Brimstones and blues and a Meadow Brown.

+1

It's been far worse this year than previously. The greenhouse shrubs are
a mess. Anything with other than extremely tough leaves seems doomed.
Even apparently tough eucalyptus leaves are fair game.

particularly affected?

Not seen a Red Admiral, but several Brimstones, Large Whites, Large
Tortoiseshells, and the odd Gatekeeper.

Have had the usual Red Admirals flapping against the invisible force
fields here ...

We feel as if we're seeing more butterflies this year compared with
the last few years. I saw a really beautiful, perfec, Red Admiral
this afternoon and there also seem to be a few Tortoiseshells around
and they have been very scarce the past few years. We also seem to
have quite a lot of browns of various species in our meadows.

We are in Suffolk Coastal DC, near Woodbridge.

Just up the road from me, then.

Nothing much in Felixstowe at the moment.

Cheers
