grow potatoes in shopping bags

I have too many of those large strong bags made of some kind of woven
plastic, stitched together with webbing handles. You buy them for 50p
from Aldi and then forget to take them with you next time. In their
square form they are 200w x 450w x 380h but filled with compost they
would form a cylindrical shape maybe 400dia and 350h.

Would they make good potato containers? with some holes in the bottom I
suppose. What could I plant in them?

I presume your dimensions are mm. They might be on the small side for
a heavy crop of spuds, as there's not much room to earth them up, but
I would think you should get a crop of some sort. See here for plenty

and here for advice on growing other stuff http://tinyurl.com/lxvxujq

I got a magnificent crop of King Edwards grown in builders' buckets. The
foliage was about a metre square though
