Please please please can anybody let me know what is happening to my hosta, been beautiful all summer even fought of the slugs why is this happening

I' say it's what is called Autumn.
They go dormant over winter.

Time of year. I assume you have never grown them before.

They do that this time of year but it could be vine weevil too. Tip it
out the pot and look for white grubs, look like aliens, in the soil.

Because it's autumn. Hostas die back below ground in winter.

Thanks everyone, no never grown hostas before somewhat of an amateur gardener will look for vine weevil though. Let you know.

It seems very unlikely.
Little white grubs in the soil.
