Rhubarb
 

I got to thinking about Rhubarb.
You find it in catalogues in the fruit section, but it's not a fruit.
I wouldn't call in a veg. so what is it?
A herbaceous perennial?

It's used as though it was a fruit (i.e. mainly in dessert dishes), so I
expect it would be designated a "fruit" for convenience.

I guess the nearest equivalent would be celery. But somehow I don't
fancy celery crumble fpr pudding...

It is a veg but regarded as a fruit similar to tomatoes that are a
fruit and considered a veg.

One has to distinguish between culinary use and horticultural
definition.

Rhubarb is used as a fruit even though it's vegetable. So is angelica.
Out of interest, where in the catalogue does angelica come?

And then, as Bob says, you have tomatoes!

But the more you think about it, these aren't the only anomalies. What
about beans, peas .....

The cataloguers list things according to where they *think* people are
going to look for them.
