They've started early this year
I've got a double-sized heated propagator. A couple of weeks ago I put
two half-size seed trays in and a couple of smaller containers with different seeds in them. A few days ago a quick glance showed some germination had taken place, so yesterday I thought I'd move the containers to the conservatory, and put new trays of seeds in the propagator. Fat chance, as when I moved one of trays with seedlings loads of ants moved out from underneath! They were under all the containers, even though the compost was wet and there was standing water in parts of the propagator. So I put some Nippon (spinosad) in yesterday, and a lot of ant powder today. I've never had ants in a propagator before, and I though they didn't like moist soil. Little buggers! -- Jeff |
