Pigeon Eating Tadpoles?
 

I imagine that is what was going on. Is it likely? They do not normally
come to the pond to drink. If so, another reason to hate pigeons!

They sound like pretty ferocious tadpoles - I hope they don't get a
taste for other garden birds ;-)

Frogs are quite elusive. I have never had to kiss one, for example. They
eat snails and slugs (allegedly).

(metaphorically, obviously) gave us punctuation to use, rather like the
Oxford comma for disambiguation.

Posting once would have been enough.

We have four species of amphibian in our pond. I _think_ I've seen a
fifth, but smooth and palmate newts are rather similar.

We've got some hostas growing next to it. We hardly ever have a slug or
snail problem.

The Blackbirds here definitely do eat them and I often see the male
blackbird doing a puffin impression with a load of small tadpoles in its
beak (How do birds do that? - you would think opening your beak for
number two would cause number one to drop out!)
