Safe to put tomatoes out yet?

The weather is all over the place but it does seem to be getting warmer.

I'm on the East Coast and it seems to be about 5C lower than inland, but I
can't see any frosts coming up.

So what is the guide for when to put outdoor tomatoes out doors?

Cheers

Get the next full mppn out of the way at least. Frost often 2 or 3 days
either side of a full moon if there are clear skys.

There was a warning this evening on the BBC East forecast of possible frost.

Wait 'til Wednesday at least!

Having been caught out in the past, grass frost 9th June, I am
reluctant to plant anything out until Chelsea time despite being 17
miles East of London in the Thames Valley. Indeed I only planted the
seeds yesterday.

The BBC weather forecast this afternoon said there could be a frost on
Monday morning.

Yes. I stand by what I said in the Climate FAQ - you simply have to
take a chance and, while earlier planting out does better in good
years, it's a complete failure in some. A cautious approach is to
plant some out 'early' and have a later sowing inside in pots for if
that fails. I am just germinating the seeds, too.

Outside tomatoes simply get blighted with me, so all of mine have SOME
protection, at least until July, when it usually is drier in Cambridge.

Nick Maclaren.

I will put some out on the decking under the plastic roof, as that area is
generally frost free.

Coastal Suffolk is also a low frost area.

Having spent some time in Berkshire a while back I was amazed at how late
the last frost was.
May some time.
Very, very few frosts here and those are generally on cars and the roofs
around her, not on the grass.

If I do put some out further into the garden it will be in mini
greenhouses because blight is a given for nearly all years.
So much so that for a while I have up growing outdoor tomatoes.

Cheers
