I bought a small tree 2 yrs ago, as a silver birch. It is now 7 ft high but no sign of pale bark. Is
this a problem or am I too impatient?

Yes!

It takes quite a while to mature to the white bark stage

Still waiting on mine after 7 years!!!!

Never going to get that nice bright white Bark in a Bonsai. 8-(( Not
in my lifetime I dont think.
