Late pruning
 

Did your Fuchsia magellanica die right down? Mine becomes just dead
twigs over winter and then sprouts from ground level again in late
spring. I remove the dead twigs about now. Perhaps yours is a bit more
sheltered though in which case I don't know - but certainly Fuchsias do
their growing late so I would have thought it would still be OK.

Mine is as tall as I am, top- heavy, and already has its first few
flowers open.

Mine is obviously very inferior then or perhaps you have a more
sheltered position! I would guess in that case that if you prune it now,
you would either lose or delay flowering considerably. I suppose it
depends on how much in the way it is as to whether it's worth losing the
flower-power.
