Default Hatfield Festival of Gardening

Hi all,

I'm thinking of visiting the Hatfield Festival of Gardening; however the
Hatfield House website is utter pants - It doesn't say how many exhibitors
will be attending let alone provide a list. Has anyone been in the past who
could give me an idea of the type and quality of exhibitors? I'm only
interested in plants and would really like to know if specialist perennial
nurseries such as Crug Plants, Madrona etc attend. I don't want to fork out
if I can't carry off at least one of the uncommon plants I'm after.

I'm surpristed the Festival of Gardening doesn't have its own website. I
went last year and was quite impressed overall. There were quite a few
specialist Nurseries but I cannot recall any names.

It was also good to have the opportunity to visit parts of the garden that
are not normally open to the public.

I'm thinking about going again on the Sunday.

If you are interested in unusual plants, the Chelsea Physic Garden is having
a Plant Fair on Sunday June 22nd.

I agree its a pretty poor website.. Designed for AOL and IE indeed..
Pah!

Anyway, heres some information I googled, most is from last years but I
imagine it'll be much the same this year. Someone told me it was pretty
good so I might go along though it BETTER be good for nearly a tenner.
Though it 'appears' that they've dropped the admission by a quid since
last year.

Real Gardens for Real Gardeners The Hatfield House Festival of Gardening
Enters a New Era Already a highly respected event among avid gardeners,
the Hatfield House Festival of Gardening is about to enter a new era,
making it one of the most prestigious events in the gardening calendar.
Celebrating its 20th anniversary the Festival, founded by Lord & Lady
Salisbury, will re-launch, on 7th - 9th June 2002, with a new format aimed
at creating a true celebration of gardening. The events' organisers have
responded to the demand from gardeners, who want to see a return to a more
traditional approach to gardening, to take gardening back to its roots -
creating a show, set in real gardens, that caters for the needs of real
gardeners. Dedicated to both serious and casual gardening enthusiasts, the
show is set within four thousand acres of parkland and is the only event
that allows visitors full access to the 42 acres of private organic
gardens. Restored over the last 30 years by Lady Salisbury, the gardens
can now be seen in their full glory and form an integral part of the show.
One of the most recently restored areas, the South Box Terrace, forms part
of the original approach to the house and is the main gateway to the
highlights of the Festival the Floral Marquee and the Showground. The
Floral Marquee will hold displays from the crème of the UK's growers,
providing inspiration to even the most experienced of gardeners, while the
Showground and Home and Garden Emporium will give visitors the chance to
buy from a selection of hundreds of quality garden products, crafts and
plants. New for 2002, the Knowledge Centre, supported by Amateur
Gardening, will feature non-commercial growers and amateur gardening clubs
to create an independent centre of knowledge, allowing visitors to gain
advice, as well as purchase a selection of plants, from specialist and
independent gardening societies. For those with specific gardening
enquiries the Question and Answer Forum, based in the old riding stables,
will offer advice from a host of gardening experts and celebrities. If you
are more interested in first hand experience then the team of gardeners
responsible for the restoration and maintenance of the gardens will be on
hand to give guided tours of the entire grounds. Alternatively you can
attend one of the authoritative lectures, hosted by Lady Salisbury, in the
Armoury. The Sculpture Park, alongside the Knot Garden, will display work
from some of the country's leading garden artists, while the Games Lawn,
adjacent to the Maze will give both children and adults alike the chance
to play with, and buy, a range of fun garden games. The chosen charity of
the 2002 Hatfield House Festival of Gardening, Marie Curie Cancer Care,
will host a Gala Evening of drinks, exquisite food and entertainment on
the opening evening of the show - celebrating the Festival's 20th
anniversary in style. Visitors will have free access to the entire gardens
and can relax by the New Pond, in the scented gardens, or take a walk
through the extensive orchards and wilderness gardens. Alternatively you
can enjoy a tour of the 17th Century Jacobean House, built by Robert
Cecil, First Minister to Elizabeth I. The House will be decorated with
flowers throughout the festival. All this and more will ensure that the
20th anniversary of The Hatfield House Festival of Gardening will be a
true celebration of gardening bringing together some of the UK's leading
garden experts to provide a fun and inspiring day out for all. Booking
