Scale insect.. Product based on rapeseed any good?

Has anyone used the product based on rape oil on scale insect with any
success? I believe it is basically supposed to suffocate them. How do I
tell if this stuff has worked? Do dead scale look significantly
different from live ones?

The citrus with scale is looking fairly healthy but it does have bad
scale...

I tried it last year Jim and can't say it worked, certainly didn't notice a
reduction in the production of Sooty Mould.
What did work was using a sprayer filled with plain water pumped up to max
and kept there. It washes the little blighters off if you go over the plant
systematically leaf by leaf, it takes time* and you get wet, but it worked
for me.
* as they don't move you can stop and come back to it later if you remember
where you got to.

The other day I noticed that my corynocarpus houseplant had a bad
attack of scale insect. I took it outside and gave every leaf a good
blast with the hosepipe, front and back, then rubbed off any tenacious
surviving scales with my finger and nail. By the end of it I was very
wet but the plant had no more scale insects; I'll repeat if more appear.
