Strawberry runners

When do strawberries set their runners?

I have had a fair crop of strawberries and it seems to have stopped for
now...

Should I be getting runners soon?

My strawberries are sending out loads of runners while they're still
cropping, so you should get some soon I would have thought

Heres hoping....

I mainly wanted runners this year.....I only have 2 plants and the idea of
having so many more next year is what I am planning on...

I don't want to buy any if I can possibly avoid it! B-)

Ours also are sending the runners out like mad at the mo. 2 plants
might just be taking their time. 8-)

I have a theory that strawberries can tell if you want them to runner, and
deliberately don't. Try walking round making loud comments about how good
it is that you've found plants that want to concentrate on fruit. ;-)

What bearing are you from London? I'll point some of mine in your
direction and, the rate they're growing, they should arrive at your
place before the end of the season.

I could have brought some up for you last weekend if I'd known.

No worries

I may have some from our local garden centre....
They have a few that haven't been sold and they may go on the 'Cheap to a
good home' stand....If they do they are mine!

I have also noted a couple of growths starting on bothe stems....I'm hoping
this is a couple of runners starting!

Mine were trying to grab me by the ankles and trip me up when I was out
picking the fruit this afternoon. Another 1.5 lb today :-)

Pound and a half?!
Wow...How many plants do you have?!

After watching teh plants for the past couple of days I really think that
these are runners coming through
They are MUCH thicker than the normal stem with a leaf...

Oh well...Here's hoping!

Mine are also doing that, I'm a complete newbie so I might be wrong,
but they're also growing runners - I find them reminiscent of the
babies you get off spider plants, only these seem to be able to
produce several new potential plants per runner. I had one early
runner, and now after I've got all 20 berries off my 6 plants (oh woe)
at least one other is now producing a runner.

LOTS!

I started with a couple of dozen about 3 years ago and due to not having
the time to keep the veg patch in order last summer, they have taken
over the whole of the area - about 15ft x 10ft or so apart from a couple
of clumps of Autumn Bliss raspberries I put in last year.

I've had about 15lb of strawberries in the last 2 weeks and there are
still plenty more to come. I've been giving them away to the neighbours
as I haven;t had tome to make more than one batch of jam.

Wow.....
I was thinking of buying one of those 'towers'....The ones with lots of
holes up the sides....
Mainly as I don't have much room....
