Small Somerset Damsons- What are they?

Hi,
I live in a house south of Bristol which was originally built on an
orchard about 50 years ago.
In the garden is an old tree which this year, has lot of small
damsons/plums.
I think someone once said they were for pollination (I think they began
with an M).
Does anybody know their name and if they are useful for making jam etc.?
Thanks

"Merryweather" would fit.

Damsons make super jam, and excellent home made wine.

The only thing I can think of like small plums is the old fashioned
'Bullace' tree. Used a lot many years ago for jams and such like.
Hope this is of some help.

I will give it a go but it might take some time to de-stone them!
