I know it is off topic but as there must be loads of freezing (not this
weather surely? :-) ) people here I wonder if someone can help.
I need a bigger freezer than my present fridge freezer has. As there are
only 2 of us we do not require a massive fridge, unfortunately all the
machines we can find have bigger fridges than freezers, anyone know of a
fridge freezer with a smaller fridge than freezer, or at least the same
size?
TIA

We have a Hotpoint "Mistral" frost-free fridge freezer (try saying that
after a few!) that's about 3 years old. I'm very pleased with it. The
fridge and freezer are the same size. If you're anywhere near Reigate in
Surrey, a small electrical trading company called Keymex do such things at
excellent prices.

I'm also in the FF market, 'cos I need to preserve my rhubarb harvest. I'm
considering one of the big Hotpoint Mistrals (e.g. FFA90) or a Bosch KGU32123.
These are both frost-free. The Bosch feels much sturdier, but the Hotpoint is a
bit bigger (on paper).

When we were in this position 5 years ago we just bought ourselves another
small freezer, okay if you have the room, and since it's only 3.5 foot high
it makes a great work top too. We tried to get a mini chest freezer but
couldnt find one to compete on price.

As one of the gardener's storage methods, I'm pretty sure fridges aren't
off-topic :-)

I've promised myself that one day I *will* have a fridge that is not
only big enough, but that dispenses chilled water and ice-cubes (or, at
the flick of a switch, crushed ice) at the front. Maybe crushed ice is
off topic. Ah, it's too warm to care, where's my fridge?

I've also got a Hotpoint Mistral frost free. Mine is a FF72 which I seem to
remember is not the biggest in the range. The fridge & freezer look the
same size and the freezer has 4 drawers.

Can't help with the fridge/freezer thing directly but I can recommend
Liebherr fridges and freezers, superb quality, most efficient ratings
possible, (and they make the fridges and freezers that are sold under the
Miele name too).

Take a look at their huge range...

www.lhg.liebherr.com/us/default.asp

Because it's raining (wonderful!!!) I took a look and found the following
models all of which are rated at energy efficiency "A".
Two are 200cm high 3946 & 3646 and two are 162.5cm high 3046 & 3031. All
seem to have equal (outside) measurements to each compartment but due to
more insulation in the freezer compartment that is slightly smaller inside.

Of course they also do the huge side by side type but again the same problem
will occur due to the extra insulation.

For the price of a big Liebherr FF (over =A3800) you could get two Bosch =
ones of
about the same size. I have no affiliation with Bosch, but this sounds li=
ke
diminishing returns.

That's not a bad solution - it would be cheaper than buying a fridge
freezer, and running costs would not be that large because you could
switch it off in spring when you'd eaten enough produce to be able to
get the rest in the fridge freezer.

We have had two of their most efficient 6ft tall freezers for a number of
years and have nothing but praise for them. Not expensive either considering
the quality, but you will probably have to search them out amongst the
specialist suppliers like Molesey Refrigeration.
