Swarms of Hoverflies

Is anyone else plagued by hoverflies? They're in every room in the house
sometimes over a 100 at a time. My wife is talking about banning flowers in
the garden!

I don't suppose theres any solution other than keeping windows closed or
stopping gardening, not a practical proposition for a plantaholic who finds
anything over 18C too warm!

Could they be attracted to the decor e.g. have you got bright yellow walls?

There do seem to be a lot of hoverflies around this year, which is great for
the greenhouse, but it's also great for my pitcher plants since the
hoverflies don't seem to learn, maybe you could buy some of these and let
them munch their way through your crowds.
On the other hand they don't do any hard, are actually good in the garden,
and don't really make any mess.
Maybe you should plant some coriander/fennel outside the house, try to lure
them all back out !

What type of pitcher plant do you have? Some are better than others, I
recently had problems with wasps in the house, and a Sarracenia x Excellens
(a hybrid between S. minor and S. leucophylla) caught every wasp that went
near the window it was beside!

Gosh, I only mentioned it since the hoverflies outside cant seem to leave my
pitcher plants alone, not sure on species though, but I guess the content of
the pitcher makes a difference, different nectar for different pests maybe ?
