Default Very old wisteria roots lifting stones in courtyard

My courtyard stones are being lifted by the roots of a very old wisteria
originally planted at the side of the stones.

Will it kill or harm the wisteria if I raise the lifted stones and slice off
half the thickness of the root so that the stones will lie flat again?

Any help on this would be welcome.

Brian
