Trouble with a willow tree
 

I have a willow tree in my garden which has been planted in clay soil too near a house and in too small an area. It is now causing me problems and the roots are spreading fast.
Sadly, I think it is time to kill the tree - anyone got any suggestions for killing it which will also ensure that growth from the roots will stop ?
