Barbeque recommendation
 

Hi there,

Can anyone recommend me a good quality barbeque?

I am looking for a new charcoal type barbeque, we currently have a small
Webber kettle barbeque which is falling to bits plus it's a little on the
small side? Our criteria is; industrial strength/robust/heavy duty, large
cooking area, charcoal ONLY................and a good quality manufacturer
would be great as well!

Alternatively, are there any supplies who can offer the oil drum barbeque
kits?

Any ideas much appreciated.

Is it important to be able to move it? Otherwise a brick barbeque is
fairly easy to construct.

No, it could be static............but I probably would prefer a barbeque I
could wheel into the shed when not in use...

We originally looked for a Weber kettle, but the big ones were a bit
too dear for our budget (having just bought and furnished a house!) so
we went to Homebase and got one of their large kettles instead.

So far, so good. Lives in the shed most of the time (and is a darn
good store for bird nuts and bulbs that the squirrels would otherwise
eat) and is easy to clean. So far it's not corroded and neither has it
been damaged. Cost about £40 I think, in some sale or other. Has two
wheels and two legs so is very stable and was easy to assemble. Has
been *very* well used!!!!

Might not be big enough for your needs, but... we've managed to cater
for 15 quite easily, including having a veggie area.

(And dead patches on my poor lawn where Le Chef once tried to be
clever and used meths for lighting it. He got thumped for that one...)

Have a look at the Outback range at http://www.outbackuk.com/index.html

They are certainly very well made. I have recently bought one of their gas
ones but they have a charcoal range as well. The thing that really sold it,
as far as I am concerned, is the porcelain enamelled grills. I have
struggled to remove burnt deposits too often in the past and this seemed a
really good idea. These grills have really worked and cleaning them is very
easy.

The outbacks are very good but they do tend to be gas. Although I do
think they have some charcoal on the lower side of the range.

I was considering a nice big gas barby untill I saw

Now I`m convinced that one of these is the barby for me. I usually have
a massive one each year with 30 to 40 people and these look just what I
need.

Weber.. Very well built.. German manufacturing demands it;-)
Look for occasional end of season special offers.. 'Kettles' are ood
as the lid can be used to really keep the heat in.. Ensuring food *is*
cooked;-)

FOr large temp bbq's just build a 'brick range' and use 2 layers of wire
mesh to bring up the level.. one for charcoal one for grilling the food
above it.

rough idea. Good if you have the room..

For small temperature BBQ's a few bricks double wrapped in foil make an
excellent portable (for vehicular transport anyway!) BBQ.. All you need
is a bit of grill to complete.

Weber (American, not German!) is the only way to go for the barbie. I suggest the 1-touch gold ( or its called something like that) with the ash catcher in the bottom. I've had mine 7 years now - had to replace a few bits in bottom due to rust last year, but it was no problem
