Default bugs bugs bugs!

I am having what I would call invasion of the bugs!

My garden is broken down into 9 sections and the one that has Me at my wits
end
is where the garage ( on the shaded side) connects with the pergola (also
shade)
There is a willow tree here that forms the corner of a triangle of shade.

The problem is this, there are tons and tons and tons of bugs!
Wasps, flies, bumble bees, and honey bees, gnats, some strange lil black
things that cling to the tree!
They swarm around there by the million! It is like a cloud of bugs!

What are they up to and how do I get rid of them??

I have tried mud on the ground and on the tree and garage, messy but no
help.
I have tried spraying them with high pressure water for long periods of
time.
NO HELP! I tried bug spray tho I didn't want to but its dangerous!

What is up and what can I do?

Why would you want to? Some of those you mention are beneficial insects (yes
even the wasps).
Do you have a particular reason to commit mass insecticide, or do you just
not like insects.
They are part of your world, try to see their beauty.

I agree with Tom, why on earth do you want to kill them. Remember for
instance that there are fewer and fewer bumble bees. We should be
protecting them, never ever killing them.

Well Tom - I know how important they are but what is the use in having a
darn garden if you cant go
into it!? I also didn't think I hurt their lil feelings by calling them
ugly!
Having air is important to but its not much good if its full of pollutants!

Yes having air is important, but you seem to be the one wanting to fill it
with pollutants by spraying chemicals everywhere!
Exactly what bugs are bugging you? I can't believe that honey bees and
bumble bees can cause you any worries.
And how do the "strange lil black things" ruin your life?
Gnats and mosquitos are I admit a pain, but unless you can get rid of all
open water within a half mile you will just have to live with them.

This lot zap anything and everything if it happens to go near their veg or
prized blooms, so I shouldn't worry too much about what they tell you MLL.
I've read about them not stopping at insects either. Someone was air gunning
a squirrel the other day. They would do the same to cats if they dare etc.
The word "hypocrites" comes to mind.

And whatever gave you the idea that everyone who posts to this ng has
the same idea? If one person advocates shooting a squirrel, and a
different person advises against wholesale elimination of beneficial and
detrimental insects alight, by what logic does that make all posters
(except of course you) hypocrites?

I love my garden and I love birds. Many of the neighbours have cats which
catch the birds and make a toilet of my garden.
If I thought I could get away with it, I would have no compunction in
shooting the cats.

It was an impression I got. If someone asks for advise because a "pest" is
eating/destroying their garden, someone is always around to give advice.
However the "non-gardener" who feels uncomfortable sitting outside because
of pesky "beneficial" insects got abuse. That same non gardener might feed
the squirrels, keep ten cats and be fascinated watching ants go about their
business - so one persons pest is another's friend and visa versa. Just
because you call yourself a gardener, doesn't mean you have the right to
decide what is friend and what is foe for everbody else.

I was not going to reply as I was attached about My dislike of bugs.
But, I wanted to thank those that were helpful. I am glad that I checked
back!
I do feed the squirrels, and I love the birds, the cats My dog runs off so
no worries.
I am terrified of bugs, snails and slugs. That was part of My worry about
the swarm.
That and I am allergic to bee stings. Hummm - death or bugs? Quite the
dilemma.
I am not a monster who just kills bugs! I have My son or husband remove them
from the house if possible. I recently purchased this property and felt so
bad about
the ant hill that is thriving in My compost that I didn't touch it. I don't
go down there either!

Again, thanks to those that offered help. For those that were rude. Damn, do
get a life.

Was I rude? I dont think so.
I asked a few questions, expressed an opinion and just asked you to look at
bugs
as a part of life, not as life you want to be parted from.
You responded with petulance and false injured pride.
You mentioned nothing about allergy to bee stings although I doubt you could
recognise a bee anyway as they are unlikely to be flying in swarms under
your tree.
The least you could do is find out what you are dealing with then someone
might be able to help you.
I have a life and insects are part of it, you don't have to go into a lions
cage to appreciate the majesty of a lion.
Get some therapy.

And Anne, shouting hypocrite at people you have never met and know nothing
about makes you look the worst kind of fool.

Hey, Tom, read the original post again and, more importantly, search for
his/her other posts. After doing that, do you still think his/her post
was *serious* or belonging to that sort of creature that lives under
bridges ))))
